A sus 69 a\u00f1os, se encarg\u00f3 de los asuntos m\u00e9dicos y personales de su madre de 88 a\u00f1os, quien no habla ingl\u00e9s y adem\u00e1s padece demencia. Claro que el c\u00e1ncer nunca espera el momento oportuno para atacar. En marzo de 2012, Teresa recibi\u00f3 un diagn\u00f3stico m\u00e9dico desastroso: c\u00e1ncer de mama. \u00a1La cuidadora estaba enferma!<\/p>\n<p><strong>El linfedema ataca<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Teresa se someti\u00f3 a radioterapia y cirug\u00eda para combatir la propagaci\u00f3n de su c\u00e1ncer de mama. Desafortunadamente, el c\u00e1ncer a\u00fan no hab\u00eda desaparecido, lo que le dificultaba la vida. Como resultado de la cirug\u00eda, Teresa desarroll\u00f3 linfedema, lo que le caus\u00f3 una dolorosa inflamaci\u00f3n en el brazo izquierdo. Una forma de aliviar el dolor era usar una manga y un guante de compresi\u00f3n, pero su seguro m\u00e9dico no los cubr\u00eda, \u00a1y no pod\u00eda comprarlos sola!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Perdi\u00e9ndolo todo lentamente<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Conmocionada por la combinaci\u00f3n de tratamiento contra el c\u00e1ncer y fisioterapia para controlar su linfedema, Teresa estaba demasiado agotada para trabajar. Sin ingresos y con las facturas acumul\u00e1ndose, su vida empez\u00f3 a descontrolarse. Se vio obligada a alquilar una habitaci\u00f3n en una residencia para ahorrar. Despu\u00e9s, tuvo que renunciar a su coche porque no pod\u00eda pagar el seguro. Ahora, mientras contin\u00faa su fisioterapia y se avecina la terapia hormonal, Teresa debe tomar el largo y lento autob\u00fas para acudir a sus numerosas citas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Todav\u00eda quiere ayudar a los dem\u00e1s<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Teresa anhela desesperadamente volver a trabajar para cubrir sus necesidades b\u00e1sicas y conservar su independencia. A pesar de todas sus dificultades, Teresa a\u00fan imagina el d\u00eda en que pueda ayudar a los dem\u00e1s. En su solicitud de subvenci\u00f3n, Teresa nos dijo: \u00abQuiero fundar una organizaci\u00f3n sin fines de lucro para ayudar a mujeres de otros pa\u00edses que padecen c\u00e1ncer y carecen de los recursos para combatir esta terrible enfermedad\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Gracias a la ayuda de nuestros generosos donantes, pudimos otorgarle a Teresa una subvenci\u00f3n que le permiti\u00f3 comprar la manga y el guante de compresi\u00f3n que necesitaba para aliviar su dolor.
