Su sueldo cubr\u00eda el alquiler y los pagos del autom\u00f3vil. Mar\u00eda trabajaba por cuenta propia como peluquera. La mayor parte de sus ganancias se destinaban a cubrir los gastos de su negocio, pero lo que quedaba ayudaba a pagar el resto de las facturas de la pareja.<\/p>\n<p>Como consecuencia de su c\u00e1ncer, Mar\u00eda tuvo que someterse a una tumorectom\u00eda, lo que le provoc\u00f3 un linfedema, o hinchaz\u00f3n dolorosa en el brazo izquierdo. Este dolor, junto con el agotamiento y otros efectos secundarios de la radioterapia, hicieron que fuera imposible para Mar\u00eda seguir trabajando. Adem\u00e1s, ella y su marido s\u00f3lo tienen un coche y son extremadamente conscientes de que no se gasta gasolina, por lo que \u00e9l la deja en el hospital a las 3 de la ma\u00f1ana de camino al trabajo para que pueda asistir a sus citas. La radioterapia suele requerir tratamientos continuos, lo que significa que Mar\u00eda debe hacer el agotador viaje de ida y vuelta de 260 kil\u00f3metros todos los d\u00edas durante el transcurso de su tratamiento.<\/p>\n<p>Mar\u00eda y su esposo depend\u00edan de los ingresos de Mar\u00eda para pagar cosas importantes como el seguro del autom\u00f3vil, la gasolina y las facturas de los servicios p\u00fablicos. Ahora, con la p\u00e9rdida de sus ingresos sumada a sus crecientes facturas m\u00e9dicas, est\u00e1n luchando por salir adelante. Mar\u00eda ha intentado calificar para recibir pagos por discapacidad y desempleo, pero se lo han negado. El dolor de su linfedema y las constantes preocupaciones econ\u00f3micas que enfrenta Mar\u00eda la han sumido en lo que ella describe como &quot;una enorme cantidad de depresi\u00f3n&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>Con la ayuda de nuestros generosos donantes, SOPFCA pudo brindarle a Mar\u00eda al menos un peque\u00f1o alivio financiero. Nuestra subvenci\u00f3n se destin\u00f3 a pagar el seguro de autom\u00f3vil de Mar\u00eda, sus facturas de servicios p\u00fablicos y a comprar una pr\u00f3tesis especial para ayudarla a controlar el dolor causado por su linfedema. Esta subvenci\u00f3n ayudar\u00e1 a que los largos viajes diarios en autom\u00f3vil al hospital sean m\u00e1s f\u00e1ciles para Mar\u00eda, ayudar\u00e1 a aliviar su dolor y le dar\u00e1 un poco menos de qu\u00e9 preocuparse para que pueda concentrarse en mejorar.
