Breast Cancer Foundation

Grant Recipient: Caprece

Diagnosis: Stage IIIB breast cancer (diagnosed 09/2010)

Treatment: Chemotherapy, hormonal treatments, double mastectomy

Grant to be used for: Utility bills, auto insurance

Patient’s story: Caprece is a mother of two who received a diagnosis of stage three breast cancer in 2010. She received chemotherapy between 2010 and 2011 followed by a double mastectomy in April of 2012. During this time, Caprece tried to cover her costs by doing odd jobs, such as cleaning houses and performing other domestic chores for others.

Unfortunately, Caprece’s cancer metastasized, and since then she has been unable to do any work to bring in extra income. The social security and disability payments she receives is not enough to cover her modest expenses. She is falling farther and farther behind on her bills and has started to make partial payments and rely on food assistance just to get by.

Caprece requested a grant to help cover her costs for things like rent, gas, utilities, and more. She also told us that she was unable to afford auto insurance and was driving to her medical appointments uninsured.

We could clearly see that Caprece was struggling just to keep her head above water in the face of a tragic diagnosis. We were proud to be able to provide her with a grant that went toward paying her utility bills and taking out an auto insurance policy so that she could drive more confidently to her medical appointments.
We thank all of our donors who made this grant possible.
